"stuck in a vortex in which the fear has them paralyzed."

Oh man, here we go again!. Our Will Richardson's post from last week noted the difficulty the "older" and perhaps less technically hip see social media and the potential it may have (threat it poses) on educational institutions. Noting particularly school administration and the big government dogs. More interesting than his post are the comments it generated. All valid points, from the digital equity issue, the lines that exist or not between learner/teacher, and reality of the fear of the internet and unintended unknowing of many teachers.

In the last hundred years what has changed in our system of education? Social promotion is still the norm. The time of year we go to school is still the same. We still go to buildings where the stuff is. Online education is doing some strange things there, but the model of delivery has not changed. Big tricky multiple choice tests to tell who knows what and who don't. Blah, blah, blah. I am stuck in vortex. I am paralyzed. All this stress makes me sick to my stomach.

Richardson noted the educator Ira Socol's presentation embedded below. Here is Ira's blog for those who are interested.
